On The Town!

This Satruday my friend Anita and I took a trip to New York.  We spent the whole day there and had a blast!

We started our day at the temple which was wonderful.  We wern't sure if they were going to have room for us but luckily we were able to be part of a baptism session. 

The temple is just a block or two from Central Park so when we got done at the temple we walked over. We didn't stay there long. I wish we could have spent more time there, we really just saw a tiny corner of it! 

We went to the Statue of Liberty next! The ferry to the island stops at 3:30 so we got there just before 3 just to be sure. Well turns out we were still too late. Tickets were all sold out. We decided to take a water taxi instead. It was more of a sight seeing tour type of thing. It sailed around a few sights around the island and a guy talked about a whole bunch of stuff. It didn't stop at the island so we didn't get off the boat but it did sail up to it and we were able to get some really good pictures!

I know you can't hear her very well but she said that we were on the water taxi and we were going to the Statue of Liberty. It was so windy! and freezing!

The cool thing about the water taxi was that it didn't just go to the Statue of Liberty and Elis Island.  It also went around the end of Manhattan and we got to see the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens Bridges!

You know how you sometimes try to sound really smart, but you actually end up making yourself sound really dumb?  The only burrough attached to the continental United States is not Manhattan, it's the Bronx.  Blame it on the cold.

While we were on the water taxi we also saw the sight of the Twin Towers so when we got off we decided to walk over to it. We started walking in the general direction not really knowing for sure where were going. This was the best because we happened upon a few things we never would have found other wise. Like...

Eventually we made it to Ground Zero.

This is the begining of the Freedom Tower that will replace both Twin Towers and will be even taller than they were! It really was pretty incredible to see. I watched it on the news but it was never as real to me as it was when I was actually standing there on the street looking at it. What a great country we live in!
Holly told me about this great pizza place that we needed to go to eat.  So we hopped back on the subway and found this little out of the way place to get some real New York pizza! (I couldn't finish mine, yeah, I'm kinda a light weight)

Next we went to Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas tree. I was so excited about it, it's been on my bucket list since I was in high school! It really was amazing! It's something like 50 feet tall and the lights were so cool!

Next we headed over to the Empire State Building.  What an incredible view! It is definitly something everyone should experience. The picture can't even do it justice. The only thing was that since the sun had gone down it was freezing up there! There was so much wind and the cold was bitter! Completely worth it though! And the vew is like this all the way around.

Somewhere along the way, I can't really remember where, we ran into the famous Christmas window decorations by Lord & Taylor on 5th Ave. They were really impressive.

By the time we decided we were both completely frozen it was about time to get on the bus to come home. we slowly made our way to the bus and to Philadelphia at about 1:30 in the morning. It was such a great day. We always had a destination but we took our time getting there. We were never in a hurry so it was totally relaxed.  I had kinda a hard week at school and so this was the perfect end to a tough week.  It was great to just hang out with a great friend!
